This past weekend saw the first event in our basement at the Black Raven, in the future home of the Cult Fiction Underground movie nights and the adjoining Subterranean Lounge. The occasion was a vinyl collector's sale, hosted by Morally Good Vinyl. The response was great and we had a steady stream of shoppers all day long. It was nice to see the first of hopefully many crowds to come in our theatre and lounge, and visitors got a sneak preview of what we've been working on for so long downstairs.

These vinyl vendors have been holding their events every three months or so for some time. Now we hope to give folks an opportunity to shop with at least some of them on a more frequent and regular basis. Beginning in April, we are partnering with our good friends and building-mates at Lone Wolf East Tattoo to host a new monthly market for vinyl sellers, artists and purveyors of the unusual. Eastside Weirdo will be held in the garage space attached to Lone Wolf East, with a focus on art and music. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for details as they develop.

A progress report on the theatre and lounge: obviously we have not gotten things open and rolling as soon as we'd hoped, but we have made great progress in the past couple of weeks toward getting the space up to speed. As soon as we get through the process of dealing with a couple more Metro regulatory boards, we'll be rolling. Timetable? Our goal is mid-April, immediately following the upcoming Full Moon Tattoo and Horror Festival at the downtown convention center, hosted by our good friends Ben and Stacey Dixon of Lone Wolf. (They've got a great line-up of celebrity guests this year, featuring legendary KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, plus Norman Reedus of the Walking Dead, Robert Carradine, and many, many more!).

So....bear with us. It's going to be a great spring!
SO....

We've been open for one month at 2915 Gallatin Pike on the mean streets of east Nashville. And the response has been really great. Despite our low-key approach to advertising, we've had a warm reception, thanks in no small part to some really flattering coverage in the Nashville Scene, and also to the curiosity of passers-by who are happy to see a new business in the neighborhood. But only one half of our business is open so far, so more exciting developments are coming soon.

The consensus seems to be that there is no other place like this in Nashville. It probably is true that we are the only place in town where you can buy a leopard skin pill box hat, an Aleister Crowley t-shirt, a blue-ray DVD of Drag Me to Hell, a beautiful piece of jewelry, original art and a book on Audrey Hepburn. Or Ed Gein. Tell me that's not an emporium. The Black Raven is a lot of cool things smashed together under one roof. From the street, you can see by our window displays that we are a boutique of stylish new and vintage clothing pieces. But you should also know that we carry great original art, from low dollar items to high priced pieces; we also have a small but very cool used book room with titles ranging from true crime, to classic Hollywood, to old trashy pulp novels, to the occult, to sex, rock and roll, travel, art, and much more. And we have a growing collection of cult dvd's for sale, along with horror collectibles, autographed memorabilia (for $600 you can take home a framed autograph from Boris Karloff or Lon Chaney!), and odds and ends like collectible bourbon decanters or hand-printed ouija boards. So that's all I'm saying about that. If that's not enough to inspire you to stop in, then I don't know what is....
unless...

Unless...perhaps a 40-seat movie theatre and adjoining pub/lounge might do it. And beginning hopefully in March, that's what will be open for business downstairs at the Emporium. Courtesy of our resident fanatic film collector, Robert Slendorn, we will be offering double features of old 1970's drive-in movie fare, exploitation, horror and grindhouse flicks every Friday and Saturday nights at our Cult Fiction Underground. We have also applied for a beer permit so that our movie goers can relax before, between and after movie features and discuss profound art matters and local gossip in the Black Raven Lounge.
In addition, we will showcase films by independent filmmakers, local and otherwise, and hope to also introduce an experimental film series. Add to this the occasional poetry reading or other bohemian event and you'll have a very cool place to hang out and have a beer or a coffee.

SO...please stop in and introduce yourself at Logue's Black Raven Emporium!
I don't have a firm date on our opening yet, but I am hoping that it will be around the first of December. Everything is proceeding smoothly but we are still involved in the process of dealing with Metro Codes in fixing up the building. While they have been helpful and cooperative so far, it's just a time-consuming process. So...stay tuned friends. Soon, I promise!Logue's Black Raven Emporiumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05259043075327173775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5752013047411430248.post-11584110776913366642011-10-17T20:48:00.001-07:002011-10-17T20:51:55.164-07:00
Logue's BLACK RAVEN EMPORIUM is an old school kind of place. Like the aged building that houses it--a former veterinary clinic that had become an institution to east Nashvillians of a former era--the Emporium itself harkens back to an older sensibility. This is because it is a business that has its own flavor, one that reflects the interests and quirks of its owners. The BLACK RAVEN carries a variety of merchandise antique and otherwise--new and vintage clothing, out of print books with a bent toward the unusual, and art by the owner and other local artists. Also to be found are movie memorabilia, jewelry and various other strange and interesting ephemera. Downstairs is the Subterranean Lounge, a dimly lit event space for photo shoots, poetry readings and more. And connected to all this is the Cult Fiction Underground, a mini-movie theatre catering to fans of drive-in and grindhouse B movie fare. Come in and visit Logue's BLACK RAVEN EMPORIUM and the CULT FICTION UNDERGROUND now--both are sure to become East Nashville institutions for the new era!
Logue's Black Raven Emporiumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05259043075327173775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5752013047411430248.post-46982120823369536552011-10-12T20:56:00.001-07:002011-10-12T20:56:36.447-07:00COMING SOON TO EAST NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE!

Logue's Black Raven Emporiumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05259043075327173775noreply@blogger.com0
